June 6, 2025 - Driving to Alaska
Sault Ste. Marie to Marathon, Ontario

Departing the Bushplane Museum and Sault Ste. Marie, we got on Trans-Canada Highway (ON-17) and headed north on the eastern shore of Lake Superior.  Our destination for today was Marathon, Ontario.  Only about four and one half hours driving today.

Most of today's drive was through hilly forest with occasional rock cliffs on the side of the two-lane highway.

Lake Superior on the left.

Ontario is definately forested.

A better view of Lake Superior.

The second half of the drive the highway took us inland away from Lake Superior.

Nothing but hilly forest.

We did see some blue sky for awhile.

The license plate on this trailer was the first U.S. plates we had seen since leaving Michigan.

Passing through a little town with a Beech 18 Bugsmasher sitting outside.

Back into the forest.

Clouding up again.  Seeing lots of little lakes.

Marathon is a little town a couple of miles south of the Trans-Canada Highway, on the shore of Lake Superior.  We stayed at this Travelodge which was nice.

The thing to do in Marathon is see the Pebble Beach, so we did.  Here it is.

The sun was muted by the mist of late afternoon.

Looking out over Lake Superior.

We had dinner at a little Chinese restaurant and that was it for this day.
